ABSTRACT:
Husky
currently has over 430,000 net acres of Oil Sands leases in northeast
Alberta. These leases are estimated to contain over 23 billion bbls of
bitumen in place. Husky’s initial plans are to develop its Tucker and
Kearl properties.
The
Tucker lease is located in the Bonnyville/Cold Lake area, and is adjacent
to the existing thermal operations of other operators. Husky has submitted
a commercial application and intends to build a facility that will be
capable of processing 30,000 barrels of bitumen per day. The bitumen
resource at Tucker is deposited in the Clearwater zone, and will be
exploited by utilizing dual horizontal well pairs with steam injection.
The facility is being designed to utilize recycled water for steam
generation. Makeup water requirements will be provided from a non-potable
saline water source.
The Kearl lease
is located northeast of Fort McMurray. Over the past two years Husky has
drilled 310 stratigraphic evaluation wells at Kearl. Results have been
favorable, and it is likely that this lease will be able to support the
development of a 150,000 bopd in situ thermal project. An Environmental
Impact Assessment is currently being done, and a commercial application
will be submitted in 2004.
The presentation
will give an overview of Husky’s two proposed thermal projects, and will
update the current state of development for both projects.
