The Petroleum Society is a nationwide organization providing a means for its members to remain at the forefront of petroleum exploration, production, processing and transportation technologies. The Society has a diverse member base, from engineers, managers and technologists; to sales, servicing and operations employees, and is divided into six geographical sections. The Lloydminster and District Heavy Oil Section is a small but very active section, focusing on oil and gas in the local area.  Its annual program includes technical presentations and workshops for the industry, courses to provide continuing education for members, and student educational support through scholarships and bursaries.
